Understanding the inner state that drives your horse’s outer responses is the gateway to softer, more effective solutions — often more quickly and quietly than you might expect.
If you feel conflicted about relying on "upping the pressure to push through" a challenge your inner sense is actually spot on.
We are designed by Nature to look to connection and collaboration first for solutions in response to challenges. So are our horses. It's our most physiologically evolved Plan A.
Why then does it so often not work that way in practice...?
When we respond to our horse's behaviour with increasing opposition, that Plan A (look to connection first) "fails" and triggers Plan B or C: defensive responses.
So why not strengthen Nature’s Plan A instead?
By understanding how connection works — and how to work with it — we open the door to a whole palette of softer solutions in hard situations.
A stretchier connection makes everything easier, safer — and more fun!
I help fellow students-of-the-horse develop close, collaborative partnerships both can count on.
I work with riders and non-riders privately and in small groups. As a certified virtual coach, I also work with folks online, wherever you are.
Here's a quick tour of the work we do. Welcome!
When you tune into the feel-based threads that shape your horse's next response, you notice more subtle changes as they're forming.
That's because you're working with the inner state that drives your horse's outer behaviour — which naturally supports your better feel & timing.
You’re no longer reacting to what just happened with corrections. You're guiding your horse, while there is still space to influence what comes next.
It's a small shift that proved pivotal for me, and for my students. That's why I created TrueFlow®, to make these skills more accessible, wherever you are.
Instead of second-guessing what to do, or what your horse might do next, be in flow with the inner state that drives outer behavior — where we can most effectively guide without force.
I can help you develop your skill to:
Responses feel more available and in sync and you become the partner your horse looks to for support. Often more quickly - and more quietly - than you might expect.

When you know how connection works and work with it, challenges become trusted turning points — not setbacks.
You become the person your horse looks to for help, because you consistently respond in ways that align with their instincts. This way of being builds trust because how you respond in tough moments shapes what your horse learns to expect from you.
You become the person your horse looks to for help — as you both discover you can count on each other. And it all starts with a surprisingly small pivot in focus.
No "special abilities" required — just the ones you already have.
What's in our Feel defines our partnership. And it really matters to your horse! Small changes can be so meaningful to your horse and transform the ongoing feel of your Connection, even through challenges. I put together a video series for those interested in learning more. I loved that feeling of riding close, the flow and understanding between horse and rider, out eventing on my Irish mare, Storm Bay, years ago. But in 2002, I found myself seriously struggling with my new horse, Chase.
The harder I tried to fix things, the more stuck we became. I wondered if that heart connection I’d experienced was a once in a life-time thing.
But I kept listening and Chase ultimately led me to a strategy and skills for softer solutions in hard situations. The big things in the small things that change everything.
The underlying key was simple yet pivotal: inner state drives outer behavior.

On those dark days, I'd promise Chase that if I ever got what he was trying to show me, I knew it would be important for the horse and would be sure to pass it on — at the time this gave me the sense of purpose that kept me going. Today it lights me up everyday.
I've been a connection coach for over 20 years, coaching online since 2015. It’s my passion to help riders and non-riders better understand what their horse is communicating as it's happening and respond with greater feel, clarity, and effectiveness.
My approach focuses on the connection between inner state and outer flow. It weaves together the precision of my early classical training in France, my long-standing deep-dive into master horseman Bill Dorrance’s feel-based teachings and my own nervous-system-informed connection work.

Connection is the key to nervous system regulation and the gateway to close collaboration.
Through TrueFlow®, students learn how connection forms, stretches, snaps and is restored. They discover the soft skills that guide the subtle ongoing conversation happening beneath outward behavior.
Because every horse deserves to be understood...
So you both discover the kind of partnership you can count on, with a feel emerging between you that finds its way into your DNA.
To you and your horse,
